living in the DMV
When you buy a home, it’s not just you out there navigating the process alone. Even if it feels that way at times, the truth is that a successful home purchase takes a team.
So, who are the key players on your side? And what exactly do they each do?
Let’s break it down.

Your Real Estate Agent (That’s Me)
Think of your agent as your homebuying guide, advocate, and strategist all rolled into one. I help you search for homes, schedule and attend showings, write offers, negotiate terms, and manage all the details between contract and closing.
More than that, I’m here to make sure you understand each step, avoid common pitfalls, and feel confident about the decisions you’re making. My job is to look out for your best interests from start to finish.
Your Lender (aka Mortgage Loan Officer)
Your lender is the person who helps you figure out how much you can afford and secures the financing to make it happen. They’ll walk you through loan options, explain interest rates and closing costs, and help you get pre-approved.
Once you’re under contract, your lender coordinates the appraisal and final loan approval. A responsive, detail-oriented lender is worth their weight in gold—and can make a big difference in how smooth (or stressful) the transaction feels.
Don’t have a lender yet? I’m happy to connect you with a few trusted professionals.
Your Home Inspector
A home inspector evaluates the property’s condition to help you understand what you’re buying. During your inspection, they’ll check the major systems (HVAC, roof, foundation, electrical, plumbing, and more) and flag anything that could be a concern—either now or down the road.
While no home is perfect, an inspection gives you the information you need to make an informed decision, and in some cases, negotiate repairs or credits with the seller.
Your Title Company (or Settlement Company)
The title company handles all the behind-the-scenes legal and logistical work to make sure your ownership of the property is secure and official. They conduct a title search, issue title insurance, prepare the paperwork for closing, and handle the transfer of funds.
In the DMV area, we typically work with local title companies or attorney-led settlement firms. I’ll help coordinate this piece for you once we’re under contract.
Your Insurance Agent
Homeowners insurance is required by lenders and protects your home and belongings in case of damage or disaster. You’ll want to get quotes and secure a policy before closing day. Your insurance agent can also help you bundle policies (like auto and umbrella coverage) and make sure your new home is properly covered.
The Bottom Line
Buying a home is a big milestone—but you’re not doing it alone. When you have the right team in place, the process becomes so much more manageable, less stressful, and dare I say… enjoyable.
If you’re thinking about buying, let’s talk about what support you’ll need and how we can assemble the right crew for your goals and timeline. I’ve got a great roster of professionals I trust and would be happy to share.
